JMY JAMES KIDD
I am a self-taught choreographic and costume designer, classically trained in ballet and modern dance. I feel a deep kinship to Surrealism, Beat Poetry, Free Jazz and Ruth St. Denis. I strive for the simply revolutionary.
I perform with a highly trained body and mind that prefer to be feral. I look for the wildness in the classical cage of my body. I express what I believe in any given moment, which may be a completely different belief the following moment. This variability is essential to my work. I make choreographic structures only so they can fall down, break apart and be rebuilt. My basic interest is the space of energetic communication and intersubjective exchange between all people in the room during a performance. I listen to my body at all times. I resist defining myself, my identity, and the limitations of my artistic practice.
